Buying aged .co.uk domains as investments

As all good domain investors know an aged domain has more value than a newly reged domain. This is becuase of the theory that Google gives more weight to aged domains because they should have gained trust in the time that they have been active (hence they are less likely to spam).

Anyway I have just started a micro-experiment into the value of aged .co.uk domains with the acquisition of westcountryonline.co.uk.

Westcountryonline.co.uk was registered in 2000 giving it 10 years of age, This gives it a SEO trust advantage.

The domain westcountryonline.co.uk was bought for £xx with a hope of reselling it for £xxx on sedo.

The link to the sales page on sedo is HERE

Will keep an close eye on this domain and report back on the resale price (when sold).

So how competitive is the Forex Web market?

I regularly get asked "if Forex offers such high ppc and commisions why dont you go into it?"

Well the real answer would be that a number of combinations would prevent me from entering the forex reporting / SEO market.

  • Brandable forex doamins are almost non existent unless you have a large enormous budget.
  • You are up against SEO companies that can afford to break the rules
  • Lots of competition

So what is my plan. Well. I am going to setup a forex blog and see how it goes.

The domains I will use for the blog / forum / review site will be forexboom.com & forexboom.co.uk.

I will report my findings and see if it is even worth my time.

Have any of you had any Forex domains that have done well in the serps or generated any decent revenue. Please comment below.

The Power of a LLL.co.uk domain

LLL.co.uk domains have a special place in the UK's domain community.

Since a few years ago all LLL.co.uk domains have been registered by various webmasters and domain investors.

Since a few years ago all LLL.co.uk domains have  een registered by various domain investors.

Currently you can try and pick up a LLL.co.uk domain name for £400 / £100,000+ depending on the combination. A good example of this was the domain Fly.co.uk which sold for £87500 in late 2007.

So why is it that companies are paying such high rates for domains that have almost zero seo value? The answer is branding. It is allot easier to brand a domains such as Fly.co.uk than buy-cheap-flights-uk.co.uk.

Also the matter of rarety in the LLL domain market adds value becuase they only make a certain about of them (estimated around 17500).

So what are your thoughts on the LLL.co.uk market? are they worth the investment?

.co.uk SEO Case Study #1

.co.uk SEO Case Study

Case Study #1 (08/01/2010)

Domain Name: PendantWatch.co.uk

Date of Registration: 16-Dec-2009 (23 days old)

Google Indexed: YES

Amount of work done on domain: Low

Current unique visitors per day: 45

Weekly traffic growth rate: +275%

Website format: WordPress Blog

Domain Story:

This domain was bought at REG fee on 16th December 2009 after a tip-off from the domains forum acorn domains.

The reason I purchased the domain pendantwatch.co.uk was because the phrases “pendant watch” and “pendant watches” receive large amounts of traffic in Google.

This domain proves one of my theories that Google gives allot of weight to the domain name alone (with little content it is competing well in high traffic searches).
